2015 New Year's Resolutions


Yesterday, I discussed how weight loss is usually the number one resolution. Today, I am posting my goals chart. My daughter will have her New Year's fireworks party tomorrow since so many had other commitments. So, our New Year's Eve will be a quiet one ( though I can imagine she will shoot off some noise maker tonight).

My Top 10 New Year's Resolutions

New Year's Eve is fast approaching. Time for those good intentions we label “resolutions.” The new year sets us in a frame of mind for reflection and hope for new beginnings.
What are the top 10 resolutions?
Weight loss is number one.
Between holiday feasting and wintery weather, pounds have crept on. It is usually on the top of my list, too. But, holiday coolies aren't the only things sitting on my hips and around my waistline. I need to improve my rating from obese to healthy. Being sedentary prompts me to not only add exercise, but some effective food choices, too. Foods can help to speed up your metabolism and help you to start feeling great in no time at all.

  1. Apples and pears - the soluble fiber pectin works in concert with phytonutrients to lower blood fat levels.
  2. Grapefruit - high fiber content causes body to use more calories. Also, lowers insulin levels.
  3. Avocado - a great source of heart-healthy MUFA and potassium.
  4. Ginger - thermogenic--it tends to slightly increase body temperature as it's being digested Ginger also contains digestive enzymes to speed up digestion.
  5. Broccoli- high in calcium, loaded with vitamin C, vitamin A, folate and fiber. Fights fat; boosts immunity and protects against disease.
  6. Leafy Greens - eat spinach and other dark leafies to optimize your red blood cells' transport nutrients and hormones. Increases iron levels

  10. Water - Try carbonated mineral water because it contains calcium, magnesium, potassium. A squirt of lemon is also, enjoyable and adds some vitamin C.
The above foods are fantastic for fat loss, so be sure to incorporate them into your weight loss diet!

Great pick-me up

I just made my own "jamocha" shake. I love my Nutribullet. I put about a quarter cup of this morning's coffee (even better if you freeze it ahead of time), a squirt of chocolate syrup, a quarter cup of powdered milk, and about 6-8 ice cubes. Inverted onto the Nutribullet and spin. Comes out almost frozen with a whipped foam on top.

Lentils--what's your favorite?

Someone gave me yet another batch of lentils. 

Time to make something with them. After browsing some recipes, this is what I came up with:
1. I cooked the lentils with a 1:2 ratio of lentils to water. I seasoned this with some fresh dill and ground black peppercorns. 
2. I used 1/4 pound Italian sausage browned with 1/2 pound ground beef.
3. I combined all with a box of New Orleans rice mix.
4. Topped with fresh-from-the garden tomato slices and a dollop of sour cream (the teenager loves anything with a dollop of sour cream).
Side dish -- Green been casserole with French-fried onions.

It is more than knowing that he orders my steps and that I can trust Him (Proverbs 3:5-6). He planned for me--my personality, my talents, my joys and desires, my sorrows and tears.

Leaving babies, elderly (you are as old as you feel), or animals in a hot car is dangerous. I didn't even leave my daughter(s) in the car when running into the gas station. It seems like this practice is more and more common, so I'm not sure what can be done. Have you ever left child or pet in the hot car?
